How To Choose Bowling Accessories

If you are interested in bowling then you know that you must choose the right bowling accessories that both fit you and are comfortable also. There is nothing worse then getting to the bowling alley and discovering that your ball no longer fits or that the bowling bag you have had for 15 years has ripped through the bottom and sent your $300 dollar ball rolling down the concrete steps. What a nightmare.

Below you will find some tips to help you decide on the right bowling accessories. This is just a guideline but you should find it helpful when choosing the right bowling accessories.

Bowling Balls

Well it would be hard to bowl without a bowling ball. If you are serious about your game then you need to be serious about the ball you use. There are a lot of terms used when referring to a bowling ball, which include terms such as CG, Axis of Rotation, Differential of RG, Radius of Gyration. Don’t get confused by these terms they mostly refer to the weight and roll potential of each ball. It is beyond the scope of this article to explain each type of ball but if you do some search online you will be able to figure out the mechanics of each type. The real trick is to know what kind of bowler you are and find a ball that is comfortable and fits your style.

Generally speaking if you are just starting out then a good rule of thumb would be to choose a bowling ball that is approximately 10% of your body weight. If you weigh 200 pounds then you should select a ball that is 20 pounds, give or take a pound for comfort and level of fitness.

Wrist Support

Another bowling accessory that may prove to be the difference between a good score and an embarrassing night out at the lanes is wrist support. It is important to have enough wrist support so you keep your ball and arm in a fixed and constant position throughout the movement and right up to the release where you start to rotate your hand to give the ball the necessary spin and rotation. There are many wrist-supporting straps available and once again it is important that the wrist support is both functional and comfortable. They even have some nice looking straps available.

Bowling Shoes

Shoes are another important bowing accessory that has to be addressed. If you have your $300 bowling ball and your brand new bag then you better have a good pair of bowling shoes. Get a pair that fit you well and are made from quality leather. The difference between a good pair of bowling shoes and a bad pair can make all the difference in your game. If your feet hurt and you are uncomfortable then your score will suffer.

Bowling is partly technique and partly mental. Having the right bowling accessories is just as important as having the right mental attitude. If you make a bad shot then at least you can’t blame it on your new shoes, ball or bag. Take a deep breath, relax and let it go. Don’t focus on what you did wrong, focus on what you will do next.
